Bradgate Park Walk – Newton Linford, Leicestershire

This is the first of three guided walks.
You can join just this one or commit to all three.

What you’ll experience

• 830 acres of open countryside, minutes from Leicester
• A wild landscape with rocky outcrops and ancient oak trees
• Seasonal views across the park
• The ruins of Bradgate House, childhood home of Lady Jane Grey
• Beacon Hill, an extinct volcano with wide views towards Nottingham, Derby, Burton-on-Trent and beyond

The walk

• Around 16 to 17 km, roughly 10 miles
• About four hours at a steady pace
• Around 400 m of elevation gain
• Mostly well-made paths and tarmac
• Final section on grass paths, which may be muddy or slippery
• A café stop after the first 1.5 miles for coffee

This is a highlight tour of the park, with enough distance and elevation to prepare you for what’s coming later in the series.

• Meet at 09:30 in the Bradgate Park car park
• Toilets available at the start
• Walking begins at 10:00

Car parking

• Newton Linford, LE6 0HB

• £6 all-day parking
• ANPR system in use. Pay at the machines before leaving

What to bring

• Walking shoes or boots
• Sports trousers or leggings. No jeans
• Sports tops. Avoid cotton
• Warm layer such as a fleece
• Waterproof jacket
• Spare clothing in case of mud or rain
• Hat and sunglasses
• Sun cream
• 1.5 to 2 litres of water
• Food and snacks
